District 20 Special Election Results

Democrat Chris Johnson appears to have won a special election for the vacant District 20 state senate seat.According to unofficial preliminary results Tuesday night, Johnson of Somerville had 3,191 votes while Republican state Rep. Dana Dow had of Waldoboro had 2,758 votes with all but two of the 21 communities reporting. The election was held to fill the seat formerly held by David Trahan, a Republican who resigned in December to become executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. The district includes all of Lincoln County, the Kennebec County town of Windsor and the Knox County towns of Friendship and Washington.State Democratic officials called Johnson’s win a “huge upset to Maine Republicans” and a rebuke of the policies of Republican Governor Paul LePage.
