House Damaged But Cat Saved In Benton Fire

Crews from four departments responded to a fire at a home in Benton Thursday afternoon.Just before 3:00 a passerby called the fire department after noticing fire and smoke at the house on the Gogan road.Fire crews said the house was fully involved when they arrived. No one was home but one firefighter managed to rescue a very frightened cat trapped inside. “We entered in the first floor and started going up the second floor,” Lt. Mike Murphy of the Fairfield Fire Department said. “The cat was about halfway up. I pulled the cat out, gave it to the owner, and continued fighting the fire.”The fire did do extensive damage to parts of the house. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to determine what sparked the blaze.
