Sheriffs’ Association Clears Sheriff Glenn Ross in Carlson Case

Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross came under fire last week for tipping off Reverend Robert Carlson about a state police investigation involving Carlson.Washington County Sheriff, Donnie Smith, called for Ross to resign as president of the Maine Sheriffs’ Association, but in a statement released by that group Thursday, officials said Ross isn’t going anywhere. The organization conducted an internal review of what happened, and found that Ross committed no ethical breach of conduct when he told Carlson a letter accusing him of sexual abuse had been sent to police. As a result, Ross remains president of the Sheriffs’ Association.
