Pipe Bomb Detonated & Another Thrown At A Farmington Woman
The State Police bomb team was called to Farmington Monday night. This after police say two men set off a pipe bomb and then threw another bomb at a woman. The call came in to Farmington Police around 9:00 Monday night. A woman reported hearing an explosion on the Bailey Hill Road and told police she rode her 4-wheeler out to investigate what happened. She says she found a suspicious vehicle in the area of the explosion. “She actually chased the vehicle down on her 4-wheeler,” Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck said. The woman, who does not want to be identified, told TV5 “I noticed a vehicle and then something flying toward me. It was lit and landed in front of me. I thought it was kids throwing fireworks.”But it wasn’t fireworks. Police say it was a homemade pipe bomb. The witness didn’t get a good look at the vehicle but told police what she did see. “She thought it was a dark colored car. She did hear two male voices just before the explosion,” Peck said.Police found the remains of the exploded device as well as the bomb that was thrown from the vehicle that remained intact. Peck says the road was immediately closed down. “At that point, they contacted the Maine State Police bomb squad who responded. They rendered that second explosive safe. Our officers met with the state fire marshal’s office and our officers are investigating in conjunction with the state fire marshal’s office.”The explosive debris was collected from the road by investigators and is now being analyzed by the Portland office of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.Police say they don’t think the bombs were targeted at any one or any place in particular. At this point, they have no suspects, but their investigation is continuing.
