Downtown Bangor Gears Up For Downtown Countdown Celebration 

Downtown Bangor is expected to be a bit crowded Saturday night.While some revelers will watch the Times Square ball drop in the comfort of their homes, others will head downtown to watch a different type of ball bring in the new year.A giant playground ball will be thrown from the roof of Paddy Murphy’s.It’s the culmination of a full day of events making up the Downtown Countdown celebration.This year, the city teamed up with Events by Mackie to bring in entertainment including jugglers, fire eaters and other street performers.They hit the streets of West Market Square beginning at 7:30pm Saturday night.There are also events for the younger crowd at the Maine Discovery Museum.”It’s a great community event, it has a wonderful feeling to it you know people are out celebrating the New Year and a chance to be together and come out and have some fun,” says Shirar Patterson with the city of Bangor.You can park at the Pickering Square garage for free, Bat Buses will be free too.For a complete list of activities visit the city’s website.Most of the events are free.
