Students in RSU 18 are certainly doing their part to help out those less fortunate this Thanksgiving.Members of the Messalonskee High School student council organized the food drive along with other students all over the district.Students contacted central Maine businesses and asked for donations. Around 15 students took part in the project. They were hoping to collect 2000 non-perishable food items…they were able to collect nearly twice that amount, collecting 3764 non-perishable food items. “It’s very good because we feel like we’re helping out a good cause,” said Messalonskee Sophomore Ryan Berard, “because Thanksgiving is coming up and a lot of people need food around this time.”All the food collected will now be taken to the Belgrade, Sidney, Holden Food Bank. The students who participated are already making plans for next years food drive. They’re hoping to break this years record and collect even more food items next year.
