Folks in Newburgh will go to the polls in January to replace a selectman who resigned unexpectedly this week. Mike Burns’ letter of resignation was formally accepted at Thursday night’s select board meeting.Town manager Warren Hatch says the two remaining members decided to set a date of January 4th to fill his seat. Hatch says in the letter, Burns said he couldn’t continue to serve because of conflicts with the remaining board members. Burns also said they’ve tried to reverse everything he’s worked to improve since he was elected last March. He took office in the wake of the former deputy town treasurer stealing nearly $200,000 from the town. The town manager says both selectmen disagreed with Burns’ comments.
