Operation Christmas Child Collecting Gifts for Impoverished Children

It may only be November, but volunteers in Orrington are busy wrapping Christmas gifts.Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes filled with gifts for children throughout the world who are living in poverty. It may be the only gift they receive this Christmas.In just one day they’ve collected nearly 700 boxes at the Lighthouse Church of God.Last year, 6,400 boxes were collected, this year they’re hoping to get 8,000.”These are children that are hurting, these are children who have had devastation come into their lives that may not know there’s goodness out there,” says Church Relations Coordinator Christine Conlogue.If you’d like to help you can drop off a box between 9 am and 3 pm at the lighthouse church of god in Orrington.You have until November 21st.There are other drop off locations throughout Maine, for a complete list visit samaritanspurse.org.
