UMaine Football Beats UMass and Earns Post Season Birth

Pushaun Brown ran for 144 yards and atouchdown, and the Maine defense returned two fumbles fortouchdowns as the Black Bears rallied to beat Massachusetts 32-21on Saturday to remain tied atop the Colonial Athletic Associationstandings. UMass led 14-10 at halftime and increased it to 11 points with13:48 left in the third when Shane Viveiros intercepted WarrenSmith and returned it 26 yards for a score. But Maine (8-2, 6-1) turned the tables from that juncture,scoring 22 unanswered points. Smith’s 6-yard run, Brian Harvey’s30-yard field goal and fumble returns for scores by both TroyRussell and Michael Cole sealed the comeback. Maine just edged UMass 372-356 on total offense, but forced fourMinutemen (5-5) turnovers while giving the ball away just once. Smith finished with 184 passing yards with an interception andalso rushed for 44 yards for Maine.
