A 34-year-old bicycle path at the University of Maine has a new look.Thursday morning, UMaine’s first lady, Grace Ferguson, cut the ribbon on the rehabilitated path. She was joined by school officials and community members. The 2.6 mile path runs from the Orono campus to Stillwater Avenue and Perkins Street in Old Town.A new half-mile from the hilltop parking lot has been added. The project was mostly funded by a grant from the Maine Department of Transportation.”There’s many applications for what people can do on these trails. It takes us away from the streets and it takes us away from the noise and the city and the town and lets us enjoy the scenery,” Ferguson said. The path is open all year long to anyone who wants to use it.
