Maine Senate President May Run for US House

State Senate President Kevin Raye is eyeing a possible run for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District seat next year.Raye, a Republican from Perry, says he’s formed an exploratorycommittee to weigh his possible entry into the U.S. House race. Raye is serving his fourth term in the Maine Senate, so he’s blocked by term limits from seeking another term next year. If he runs for Congress next year, it will be Raye’s second try for the seat. In 2002, he won a four-way primary but lost in the general election to Democrat Michael Michaud, who continues to represent the district covering northern, eastern and western Maine. Before running for Congress, Raye served for 17 years as a topaide to U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine.
