Boy’s Soccer Down to 16 Teams in Eastern Maine

The boys have their day today for soccer. All of the regional quarterfinal games are being played. There are a few more tonight. We start with the big schools and we head to Hampden Academy as the Bronco’s host Brunswick.No score ten minutes in. Cam Libbey’s shot deflected by Josh Meehan. He turns and fires. Scores to the keepers right. Hampden grabs the first goal of the game.It’s the only goal needed for the Broncos today. Hampden takes out Brunswick with a 1-0 final score.+++A chilly night at Bangor High as the Rams hosting Lawrence.1-0 Bangor in the second half, Lawrence captain Tim Dudley pokes it past the keeper. Game tied at one. Momentum sits with the dogs.But Bangor responds with just over ten minutes to play. Freshman Nate Bach puts Bangor back in front. 2-1 Rams.Lawrence put a lot of pressure on goal to try and tie it over the final minutes. Zach Blomerth with the attempt from distance but Liam Harrigan paws it away. The defending state champs move on with a 2-1 win over Lawrence.+++The Hampden Academy Broncos will take on the top seed in Class A. The Lewiston Blue Devils. They keep on rolling this afternoon. Picking up a 3-2 over Mount Blue.And the upset of the day in Class A: Messalonskee won at Mount Ararat 1-0 thanks to a goal from Chris Hall. The reward for the Eagles? A trip to Bangor to take on the defending state champs.+++To Presque Isle, the Wildcats hosting Hermon. Wilder York scores for the Wildcats to give Presque Isle a 1-0 lead late in the first half. Hermon keeper Kevin Frederick kept the hawks in the game early with some great saves but the Hawks can’t break PI. Presque Isle advances with a 1-0 win over Hermon.+++The Wildcats will take on Camden Hills in the next round… the unbeaten windjammers scored a 4-0 win over John Bapst. Captain Sam Predham with three assists in the game. In the other two games in Class B today: Ellsworth stays perfect thanks to a 3-nil win over MDI, and in Winslow, Mt. View pulls off the upset on the road. The Mustangs win it 3-0 and will face Ellsworth in the Eastern Maine semi’s.+++In the Class C four – five matchup, Orono hosting Lee Academy.Early in the first half Orono with a free kick. Viktor Domberg centers to senior classmate Dan Perry who redirects nicely. Matt Cloutier also scored for Orono and they hold on to beat Lee 2-1. +++Top seed Penquis was also a winner today but it took awhile to get past Ft. Kent. Isiah Bess scored in overtime to win it for the Patriots.Also, Madawaska doubled up Sumner and Houlton scored in bunches in their 4-1 win over Dexter.+++In Class D, Shead making the trip from Eastport to play top seed and undefeated Bangor Christian. The Patriots get a pretty goal from Rem Poulin to open the scoring. Bangor Christian looking for a third straight state title. BC putting pressure on again and out of the pile Jay Bishop bangs it home.Senior Brad Wilcox had three goals and now has 101 in his career. The two-time defending state champs advance with a 6-1 win.+++Other Class D scores, Central Aroostook a 2-0 winner at home over Machias.Woodland put up a fight but the Dragons lost a close one with Washburn 4-3.and Easton scored the only goal of the game in overtime. 1-0 the final in Dyer Brook.
