Nearly two dozen community leaders came together in Bangor Tuesday to learn how to help their non-profit organizations do even more for the people they serve. The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce teamed up with the Maine Association of Nonprofits to host the seminar. It was called The Non-Profit Board Boot Camp.Organizers say the event was designed to help board directors and members become better leaders. They also stressed the importance of developing priorities for non-profits by creating a strategic plan. Shirar Patterson, the Downtown Coordinator for the City of Bangor, says, “Having an understanding of that strategic vision and strategic priority really can help your board have a better and greater impact in the community and really meeting your mission and move your work forward.”The board members say the boot camp was also a good chance to network with other organizations, find out about resources and figure out how to attract more volunteers.
