Hampden Fire Department Does Controlled Burn for Training

Updated 3 years ago

Folks driving on the Coldbrook Road in Hampden may have been alarmed when they noticed a building on fire.It was just the fire department doing a controlled burn for training. The building was owned by H.O. Bouchard. They had tenants move out and decided the house was beyond repair for them, so they donated it to the Hampden Fire Department. The fire department did four control burns, before letting the house burn to the ground. They say a training opportunity like this is rare.” We can talk about it in theory in the classroom and we can practice in some controlled burn buildings, but actually having a real structure the way it reacts to real fire is important, we don’t get to see it a lot.”They say at one point, there were probably about 100 cars lining the sides of the street, watching the training.
