Bangor City Council Takes Step Toward Prohibiting Fireworks in Bangor 

The Bangor City Council has taken a step toward prohibiting fireworks in Bangor.The council voted 7-2 Wednesday night to refer a proposed ordinance to the planning board that would prohibit the use, possession or sale of fireworks.They also voted to postpone indefinitely proposed ordinances that would regulate the sale of fireworks.The next step is for the planning board to review the ordinance proposal and send it back to the council with any recommendations for a full vote.Fireworks become legal in Maine on January first.But the new state law gives municipalities the option to ban them.
