Former Lawmaker Indicted on Gun Charges

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – A former Maine legislator who was barredfrom the State House after being charged with pulling a loaded gunon a stranger in a parking lot has been indicted. A Kennebec County Superior Court jury indicted Frederick Wintleon Friday on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerousweapon, reckless conduct and carrying a concealed weapon. Wintleresigned on Sept. 13. His attorney has said Wintle’s actions were the result of amental breakdown. Leonard Sharon says Wintle remains in treatment. Sharon said he wanted to resolve the case in a way that wouldallow Wintle to avoid a felony conviction: he said he negotiatedwith District Attorney Evert Fowle.
