Wilton Police Chief Named

A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy is going to become the new police chief in the Maine town of Wilton.At a meeting Tuesday, the Wilton selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Heidi Wilcox as the new chief.The 45-year-old Wilcox was chosen from a pool of 25 applications.The chief’s job became vacant this summer when the previous chief resigned saying he was worried the town would disband the police department.Wilcox has reportedly worked in law enforcement for 23 years. For the last decade she worked as a deputy and emergency dispatcher in Franklin County. Before that she served as an officer in Jay and Livermore Falls.The Wilton police department has six full-time officers and several reserve officers.(The Associated Press)
