More Land Bought to go Towards a New National Park in Medway

Updated 3 years ago

Roxanne Quimby has bought more than 11,000 more acres of forest near Baxter State Park. It’s near land she wants to transform into a national park. Medway residents recently approved a feasibility study for that park.Quimby has offered to give more than 70,000 acres to the federal government for it.If the national park is ever established, hunting and snowmobiling would be off limits there. But plans are to allow that type of activity on her latest purchase to offset the national park restrictions.Quimby also envisions setting aside another 30,000 acres of woods north of Dover-Foxcroft with hunting and snowmobiling allowed. Her foundation buys and preserves land, much of it for public use…it now owns more than 100,000 acres in Maine.
