I-95 Speed Limit Increase North of Bangor

Updated 3 years ago

North of Bangor, motorists often put the pedal to the metal on I-95. Soon, it’ll become legal to drive faster when the speed limit becomes 75 mph, the fastest in New England.A new law taking effect Wednesday along with scores of other laws authorizes the state Transportation Department to post 75 mph speed limits from Old Town to Houlton on Interstate 95, where the 65 mph limit has been in effect. While the law kicks in Wednesday, it won’t really be legal to go faster until next week.Transportation Department spokesman Lark Latti says the new limit takes effect when the new signs go up – and that’s scheduled for next Tuesday. DOT crews will work north from Old Town, and south from Houlton, replacing the 65 mph signs.(The Associated Press)
