Lew Gilman, Co-Founder of Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race, Passes Away

Lew Gilman has died. He was one of the co-founders of the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race in 1966. Gilman has been on the committee that has organized the race since its inception.Gilman and Sonny Colburn had the idea 45 years ago to have a canoe race that started in Kenduskeag and ran 16 miles to Bangor. Over the years the event had as many as 750 boats in a race.Always held on the third Saturday in April, it is referred to as a right of Spring in Eastern Maine.Lew Gilman was 81.
