Committee Hearing on Prison Land Sale to Warden

The Maine Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee will hear more details about the sale of state prison property to the warden for less than the assessed value.Issues to be covered at a committee meeting Tuesday also include how the real estate company making the sale, CBRE/Boulos Co., was selected. The sale of the 5-acre property in Thomaston to Warden Patricia Barnhart and her partner has been ruled illegal by state Attorney General William Schneider, who cited a statute prohibiting state officials from engaging in contracts with the state in which they stand to gain financially. While the sale is being reversed, the oversight committee wants to talk to more people involved in the transaction.(The Associated Press)
