The state’s former top drug prosecutor, who was convicted on child pornography charges, is now free on bail while he appeals his case.49-year old James Cameron of Hallowell was sentenced in March to 16 years in prison for sending and receiving child pornography between 2006 and 2007.A federal judge in Maine had ordered Cameron to remain in prison during his appeal, but that decision was overturned. The U.S. Bureau of Prisons website says Cameron was released Thursday night from a prison in Colorado. A judge’s order this week said Cameron could be released on $75,000 unsecured bail. He also has to wear a GPS monitor, register as a sex offender and report to his probation officer within three days.No word yet on when arguments will be heard on Cameron’s appeal.
