Senator Snowe’s Reaction to Recent Congressional Activity

Standard and Poor’s move to water down America’s credit rating was largely a reaction to a lack of confidence in Congress to do the right thing, at the right time.In her sixteen years in the U.S. House, and sixteen years in the U.S. Senate, Senator Olympia Snowe says she’s never seen such a lack of cooperation among members of Congress. She says there’s plenty of blame to go around for America’s lower credit rating, but now is not the time to point fingers.”And I hope that when we return that we recognize that it’s not only a wake-up call but it’s a call to arms for both the President and the Congress to work together, to forget the political messaging, all about the next election, doing anything at all costs, the winning and losing, and scoring political points, but rather doing what’s right for the country. At this time when America’s heart is broken.”Senator Snowe says regulatory reform, tax reform and deficit reduction along with job creation are what congress needs to get to work on immediately to help right what’s gone wrong.
