Local Players on Maine Baseball Team Looking for More Success 

The UMaine baseball team plays in the NCAA tournament tomorrow night for the first time in five years.Maine has a long history of baseball success and hopes to add to it this weekend. Tim Throckmorton with more.This is the 16th time that the Umaine baseball program has put a team in the NCAA tournament. There was 1964, when they finished 3ed at the College World Series. That started the tradition. Local guy Joe Ferris from Brewer the MVP and in the 70’s and 80’s there were other local start like Mike Bordick, Jon Perry, Pooch Pickett and the list goes on and on. There are only seven Mainers on this years team. Joey Martin is a senior captain from Portland. And just two freshman from this area. Eric White from Brewer and Nolan Turner from Hampden. White has played a lot this season and has gained confidence.Eric White – Maine 2B”It helps a lot even though I’m not playing very much now I’m on this team and we love each other it’s a great thing we have going right now.”He’s not playing because the other freshman 2nd baseman Troy Black, is hitting 386.
