Tanker Truck Rollover, Gas Spilled on Route 11

Clean up efforts continue in Aroostook County where a huge gas spill happened Tuesday afternoon.State environmental officials say a truck hauling fuel rolled over, spilling between 4,000 and 5,000 gallons of gas.It happened on Route 11 in Wallagrass.Foam is being used to control possible explosive vapors from the spill.We’re being told that most of the gasoline made it into the bedrock along the road and as a result, may have seeped into the groundwater.Nearby homeowners have been notified.Fire fighters, State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, volunteer emergency crews and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection are all on the scene. It’s being called a “serious situation.”The truck is owned by John T. Noble Trucking Company out of Caribou. It was was hauling gasoline for the Daigle Oil Company in Fort Kent. The condition of the driver was not immediately known…no word yet why the truck rolled over.
