Fire Destroys Mobile Home 

A Greenville woman and her teenage daughter escaped their burning home early Tuesday morning.Fire fighters were called to Washington Street around 12:15 a.m.Greenville Fire Chief Joe Harris tells TV-5 Robin Thorton and her daughter were awakened by the smell of smoke. They managed to get out of the home and call 9-1-1 from a cell phone.Chief Harris says there were no smoke detectors in the mobile home.When fire crews arrived, flames were coming out of the back of the trailer, near a bedroom.Fire fighters spent about three hours battling those flames, but they were unable to save the home.There were no injuries reported, although a few pets did perish in the fire.The Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to determine a cause.We’re told the Thortons had no insurance, they are staying with family for now.The Red Cross is also assisting them.
