School board leaders in RSU 25 will take another step in the plan to close the Orland Consolidated School. They’re holding a special meeting Thursday night to set the date for a referendum vote. That will give the public a chance to weigh in on the idea. Last month, the board voted unanimously in favor of shutting down the school. Superintendent Jim Boothby says closing the doors would save $329,000 a year. He says the public vote is expected to be scheduled for May 9th.
