School Board Approves Recommendation to Close Orland School

The Orland Consolidated School could close its doors at the end of the school year.Superintendent Jim Boothby made the recommendation to close the school at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.Boothby tells us the decision is based strictly on funding. He says closing the school will save more than $300,000 a year. The school board voted unanimously in favor of the proposal. The state’s education commissioner will look over the paperwork. If the commissioner approves the closing, Orland residents will vote on whether or not to close the school.Boothby says that vote would likely happen in May.If the school does close, students would go to Bucksport schools.
