Fatal Fire in Unity Plantation

Smoldering rubble is all that’s left of a mobile home on Reynolds Road in Unity Plantation. The state fire marshal’s office believes the blaze broke out sometime last night, but it wasn’t discovered until this morning. When fire crews arrived around 10 am, the home was in pieces on the ground, but still smoking.Investigators sifting through debris eventually recovered three bodies, who they say they were burned beyond recognition.Fire officials were able to get in touch with the property owner, as well as the home’s tenants. None of them were inside during the fire.Investigators say they still don’t know a cause, but their main focus is on identifying the victims.”We may never know because of the extent of the damage, but we’ll certainly give it a try to see if we can figure it out. What we’re doing right now, though, is we’re primarily involved in the recovery of the three victims, conducting interviews, try to figure out who the victims may be that are in here. Trying to get some possible identifications, so we can get notifications out to family.”The fire marshal’s office says the lapse in time between when the fire started, and when it was discovered, could make it difficult to determine a cause.
