The chair of the Chelsea Board of Selectman who’s facing criminal charges is asking a judge to lower her bail and allow her back into the town office. 52-year-old Carole Swan is accused of trying to get a $10,000 kickback from a road contractor. She’s charged with forgery and attempted theft. Swan appeared before a judge in Augusta Friday for a bail hearing. She’s currently out of jail on $25,000 cash bail. She asked a judge to drop that to $5,000. She also wants some of the conditions of her release changed.Swan says she wants to be able to go to town hall to conduct personal business and to continue her duties as a selectman.Prosecutors argue the town of Chelsea is the victim in this case and the town hall is the scene of the crime and Swan shouldn’t be allowed back in.The judge says he’ll issue a ruling later.
