Local students are cheering on a good cause.Cheerleaders at Bangor Christian School are using their chants to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. On Thursday, the school presented the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation with a three-hundred dollar check. The school’s cheerleading squad spent an entire day fundraising for the organization. The foundation’s Maine affiliate says their efforts and contribution could one day lead to a cure. “Every little bit really does count. We have invested over 1.8 million dollars here in the state of Maine, and five-thousand dollars in research. Believe it or not, almost every penny of that was from small donations,” said Executive Director, Sally Bilancia. For more than a decade, the foundation has hosted its Race for the Cure walk on the Bangor waterfront.Last year’s walk raised more than three-hundred thousand dollars to fight cancer.
