CMP Gets Complaints About “Smart Meters”

Ten more people have filed a health complaint with Maine utility regulators, opposing Central Maine Power’s changeover to “smart meters.”The complaint seeks to suspend CMP’s smart-meter installation or force the company to offer an alternative to customers who don’t want the devices on their homes. The petition is the first one in Maine to focus exclusively on health concerns.Smart meters send information through radio waves.CMP says they don’t pose any health risks. But critics say there’s no conclusive proof and that the question deserves more study.
