Bowen Confirmed as Education Commissioner 

A former teacher and analyst for a conservative think tank is assuming the top job at the second-largest department in state government.Stephen Bowen is being sworn in as Maine’s education commissioner on Friday. He was confirmed by the state Senate on Thursday by a vote of 25-10.Bowen taught for five years in the Camden-Rockport district before joining the Maine Heritage Policy Center. After November’s election, he went to work for the LePage transition team.Bowen has said the education department needs a long-term comprehensive plan.
