Talks Last Less Than An Hour at EMMC

Union nurses and administative staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center went back to the bargaining table Monday with a federal mediator, but that meeting didn’t last long. The talks lasted less than an hour, before the mediator dismissed both sides saying neither had changed their views on the key issues. The nurses have been working without a contract since September. The union says their biggest issue is better patient to staff ratios, and one of their spokeswomen said EMMC has not given any indication as to why they haven’t moved. The hospital said while it looks like progress is not being made in the talks, there have been several compromises between the two sides in the negotiations. The next round of talks is scheduled for April 13th.
