Fatal Accident on I-95 Southbound

Monday’s winter storm and poor driving conditions claimed a life in a crash on I-95 in Etna. The accident happened just after Exit 167 on the southbound lane when a silver Honda Civic with Massachusetts plates hit a parked service truck just after cresting a hill. The truck is owned by Discount Towing of Carmel and was in the breakdown lane to help the driver of a tractor trailer that had broken down. The rear end of the Civic hit the back of the box truck, and swerved across the Interstate and came to a rest near the yellow center line. The snow made it difficult for authorities to investigate the crash.” You just do the best you can,” said Trooper Trevor Snow. “Take pictures early we’ve got on board cameras that we can look at eventually and just preserve the scene as well as you can.”Neither truck driver saw the crash, but told officers they heard the impact. The female drivers identity is being with held until her family can be notified. No one else was in the vehicle and no other injuries were reported.Traffic was stopped on the intersate for nearly three hours and was re-opened about 2:30.
