Maine Democrats Concerned by Education Nominee 

(AP) – Maine Democrats are less than enthusedabout Gov. Paul LePage’s nominee for state education commissioner,Steve Bowen, saying his background includes support for what theysay is a right-wing agenda. House Democratic Leader Emily Cain says Bowen is passionateabout education and has spent a lot of time studying and writingabout education policy. But Cain says Democrats are concerned abouthis experience working for the Maine Heritage Policy Center, whichshe says supports an agenda. Cain hopes Bowen will support policies to bring togetherteachers, students, parents, and administrators. The chief executive officer of the Maine Heritage Policy Center,Tarren Bragdon, says Bowen’s nomination is a clear sign thegovernor is serious about implementing student-focused educationreforms.
