Couple Grateful For Rescue Workers and Neighbors

A Maine couple is thanking the first responders who helped pull the woman to safety from frigid tidal waters after she tried to rescue their dog from the ice near their Machiasport home. Susan and Wayne Tinker are crediting neighbors they never met, local and state police, and a bevy of other rescuers for saving both Susan and the dog on Saturday evening. Susan Tinker says they knew not to go out on the ice, but that was before their 155-pound dog bolted onto the ice chasing a fox. Susan Tinker says that while trying to get the dog off the ice, she slid into deep water. Wayne Tinker then called 911 and within minutes the area was filled with rescue workers. (AP)
