Man Accused of Hitting Officer with Car Sent to Psychiatric Facility

A man from Dexter accused of hitting a police officer with a car is now in a psychiatric facility.37-year-old Joseph Collins is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.He was expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday but Penobscot County jail staff tell TV5 he’s been transferred to Dorthea Dix Psychiatric Center in Bangor. On Sunday, Dexter Police officer Gary Morin was sent to investigate a report of a violation of a protective order.The two men were talking outside when police say Collins got in a car and headed toward Morin.Police say Morin was hit by the car after he told Collins to stop and drew his weapon. Morin is recovering from a shoulder injury.Collins was initially scheduled to be in court Monday but jail staff said he was too disruptive to appear.
