Grasshopper Shop Says Goodbye 

A staple of downtown Bangor will be closing its doors.The Grasshopper Shop on Main Street is shutting down after 28 years of business.Rick Schweikert opened the store with his wife as part of a family business.They have two other Grasshopper Shops in Searsport and at the Bangor International Airport.But after a great run downtown, they’re just ready for a break.Their other stores will stay open, along with family run branches in Ellsworth and Rockland.Schweikert says it’s not easy to leave the area. “Well, it’s very bittersweet. I mean, we’ve loved being here. So, I loved it here. It was a fantastic place to have a business, great place to make friends. Great place to raise a family, so it’s been a great life.”The shop will be replaced by a Mexicali Blues, which is scheduled to move in March 10th.
