Police Officer Hurt by Fleeing Vehicle 

A Dexter man was in court Monday, accused of assaulting an officer with a car over the weekend.37-year-old Joseph Collins is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Dexter Police Chief James Emerson says it began when Officer Gary Morin was sent to investigate a report of a violation of a protective order.As the two men were talking in a driveway, Collins reportedly got in his car and began heading toward Officer Morin.The officer ordered Collins to stop and drew his weapon.That’s when Officer Morin was allegedly hit. Chief Emerson says Morin’s gun accidentally went off. No one was hurt, but Morin’s shoulder was injured from the car.Collins was eventually located and taken into custody.He’s being held on one thousand dollars cash bail.
