Maine Men’s Hockey Picks Up 4-2 Win Over Vermont 

To say that this season for the Maine men’s hockey team has been head-scratching would be an understatement. At times they’ve been brilliant, wins against North Dakota and Boston College proove that, but other times they look like a shell of themselves. Last night’s 7-2 loss to Vermont being the perfect example. Tonight, Maine hosting Vermont and looking to end a six game winless streak.In a game you could see right here on TV Five. Shawn Sirman in net. It didn’t take long for maine to get on the board.Just six seconds into the game, Gustav Nyquist down the ice and past rob Madore. 1-0 Maine. Nyquist has been on fire lately. Sixth goal in his last four games and 12th this season.But Vermont comes right back, 90 seconds later. Five-on-three Catamount power play. Sebastian Stalberg, the sniper, beats Sirman. We’re tied up.Under five minutes left in the first, another Vermont power play. Jack Downing tips Chris McCarthy’s shot. 2-1 UVM. Vermont went five for 13 on the power play this weekend. Second period, Maine levels it up at two. Brian Flynn on the doorstep. Burries the rebound for a power play goal. He now has 14 goals this season. Tied for the team-lead with Spencer Abbott.Still 2-2 in the third, Joey Diamond comes out of the penalty box. Flies down the ice. Fights off the bigger Lance Herrington. Diamond, the Bulldog, forces himself infront, beats Madore. A great goal. Maine up 3-2.Then in the final minute, Gustav Nyquist on the open net. He makes sure he doesn’t miss this time. Maine comes back and picks up the split against Vermont. 4-2 the final score. Perhaps Maine can turn it around.
