Two Maine Naval Air Station Runways Have New Owner

The two runways at Maine’s Brunswick Naval Air Station have a new owner. In a ceremony Monday, the Navy conveyed ownership of more than 900 acres of land, the runways, and a number of hangers that had been used for naval aircraft. The airport is being redeveloped for civilian use. It will be managed by Norwood, Massachusetts-based Flight Level Aviation. What’s unusual about the transfer is it’s taking place before the base closes. The decision to shutter the base was made in 2005. It has to closed by May 31st, but the formal closing is expected to happen before then.
