Sen. Snowe Gains Support in Call for Afghan Probe 

U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe says she’s gaining support in her call for a federal review of security forces in Afghanistan after a soldier from Maine and five others soldiers were killed by an Afghan recruit during training exercises. Twenty-four-year-old Buddy McLain of Peru and the other soldiers from the Army’s 101st Airborne Division were killed in the November 29thincident. Snowe, a Republican, says she wants to ensure that Afghan security forces are not a threat to U.S. personnel. Snowe says here effort is backed by Army officials and her Democratic colleague, Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan. Snowe says answers are needed for the safety of troops and for the long-term prospects for peace and stability. (AP)
