Red Ball Raises Awareness for HIV/Aids

Folks danced the night away all for a good cause on Saturday. It was the Eastern Maine Aids Network’s Annual Red Ribbon Ball at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor.TV-5’S Morning News Team Wayne Harvey and Joy Hollowel hosted the event. It’s the biggest fundraiser for the organization and all the money will go toward case management services, HIV prevention, education and testing.Program Manager, Sean Weber says the funding keeps getting smaller but the cases aren’t decreasing. He says this event is important to raise awareness.”There is still somewhat a stigma attached with HIV at times because they sometimes think you went out and got this on your own and that’s not always true. It’s people that were sometimes lied to, sometimes it’s an accident. So we try not to put a stigma on to this. HIV is a disease that affects everybody from every walk of life.”To make a donation to the Eastern Maine Aids network you can go to their website
