Maine Democrats Upset by LePage Memo

Maine Democrats and the state employees’ union are upset by an internal memo from the administration of GOP Gov. Paul LePage that says state employees will be working to get Republicans re-elected. The internal memo written last month by LePage spokesman Dan Demeritt says the LePage administration “will put 11,000 bureaucrats to work getting Republicans re-elected.” Democratic Party Chairman Ben Grant says state employees are not political pawns and having state employees engage in partisan political activity violates the law. The memo was written before LePage took office. It was posted Thursday on the Democrat-leaning website Demeritt says the memo was not meant to be taken literally. (AP)
