Senators Appoint Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety 

The Maine Senate has confirmed Governor LePage’s nominee to head the State Department that oversees the State Police and Fire Marshal’s office. By a 34-0 vote, Senators finalized the appointment of John Morris as Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.Morris, the former Waterville Police Chief, was LePage’s Chief of Staff during his run for governor. The senate put off a vote on Governor LePage’s nominee to head the Department of Environmental Protection.Darryl Brown’s appointment won a vote of support in committee earlier this week.But some lawmakers expressed concern over how Brown would cut ties with his land-development consulting company.
