Former Augusta Firefighter Ordered to Jail 

A former Augusta Fire Department Captain will spend 14-days in jail for stealing money from a firefighters union fund. 39-year-old Robert MacMaster was sentenced on Tuesday for taking more than $3,500 from the Augusta Uniformed Firefighters Association in 2009. MacMaster was President of the group at one point.District Attorney Evert Fowle says MacMaster pleaded guilty to theft by deception last year but his sentencing was deferred to give him time to pay back the money, which he did. Fowle says MacMaster is also accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl over a period of four years, starting in April 2006. He was charged last month with one count of gross sex assault and four counts of sexual abuse of a minor.MacMaster’s due in court next month on those charges.
