Maine Trooper Shoots Dog to Help Owner

Maine police say a state trooper shot and wounded a pit bull after the animal attacked its owner and forced the owner to barricade himself in a room at his Lagrange home. Police say they received a 911 call Sunday afternoon from two men who reported one of them had been mauled by the dog. The men retreated into a room and closed the door while the dog was trying to chew its way through the door. Trooper Adam Coover says the 29-year-old owner, whose name was not released, was treated for puncture wounds on his neck, legs and arms and then released. The 3-year-old dog was taken to a veterinarian who euthanized the animal. (AP)
