Committee to Hear From Public About “Red Tape” 

A newly formed legislative committee is starting a statewide series of hearings to find out what the public has to say about regulatory reform.The Joint Select Committee on Regulatory Fairness and Reform kicks off its hearings at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle Monday. A hearing is also scheduled for Wednesday at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center in Belfast.Five more hearings are scheduled for the following weeks in Machias, Bangor, Auburn, Sanford, and South Portland.Republican Senate President Kevin Raye of Perry says the public hearing tour will enable job creators to share their challenges with maine regulations and share proposed solutions with legislators.House Speaker Robert Nutting of Oakland says that rather than making people come to Augusta to be heard, the legislature’s taking the discussion to them.
