Orono Man Rescued from Sugarloaf Mountain 

The Maine Warden Service says a 24-year-old Orono man who went out-of-bounds while skiing on Sugarloaf Mountain has been rescued and is okay. Cody Martel was located late Wednesday and transported out of the woods. Martel had been skiing around noon when he traveled out of bounds near what’s called “Hell’s Gate.” He reached a tributary of Rapid Stream where he was able to call a friend via cell phone at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Weather conditions on the mountain were 16 degrees and snowing.Wardens advised Martel to stay put and he was located at 11:15 p.m. Martel was evaluated by emergency medical services and released. (AP)
